A Tribute to All Those NaNoWriMo Novelists

Last year, November 2012, I took on the National Novel Writing Contest and wrote 60,000 words in the allotted 30 days.

Those of you who've done it this year, you're probably thinking your pretty tough.  I was.  Not to dampen your spirits, but if you're truly thinking yourself the master of all writing marathons, think again.

Yes, there's something even more challenging than NaNoWriMo.

The 3 Day Novel.

And it sounds exactly like it is.

30 days divided by 10.  That's all the time you have to write a full length novel.

And now, this isn't some total spoof of a post.  It's real.  Thousands of writers have done this - some have even succeeded (without going whack in the old second story, either).

It's not like I'm going to ever try this.  Maybe later.  Maybe.

Sorry I just killed all your pride in finishing a 50k novel, but it had to be done.

  1. Oh my goodness.... That's definitely insane. I'm not sure I'd want to really try that, to be honest...

    1. Me either. It would be a crazy feat - which is the ONLY reason I'd ever want to do it; just to say I did it.

    2. Yeah, exactly!

...can you imagine how much editing would have to go into that, though? A novel in three days probably has so many issues and mistakes....

    3. Ack! I don't even want to think about that. Editing would be a horror.

    4. Hehe, that would be a nightmare! Chances are, novels written in three days.... aren't even worth editing. Maybe there's the exception, but I've had hard enough time writing novels worth editing for NaNoWriMo, and that's an entire month, not half a week.

Wow, though. I wonder how they do it....... Lots of caffeine and no sleep, probably, eh?

  2. I've heard of that being done and, yes, I think it's insane. Right now, I don't feel I ever want to do it!

To be honest, NaNo was pretty easy for me. I didn't work hard at all, so I'm definitely not tough. But I'd say those NaNo novelists who write into the wee hours of the morning while drinking gallons of coffee are pretty tough.

    1. Thanks for checking out my blog, Tara!

Hehe, yes, I don't want to ever do it.

When I did a full novel last NaNo, I never wrote into the wee hours or got up to write during the wee hours, but I didn't really do much else that November except write, so I wouldn't exactly call that tough.

    2. The only night I stayed up late and writing was when I stayed up until 12:30 on the last day of NaNo. I drove myself hysterical, to be honest...
