I meant drifts, but from wherever I learned of them, shifts and drifts were interchangeable, so it stuck with me like that.

I'm not even too big on POV shifts (I'll try to make the distinction of shifts and drifts from now on), but, like you said, I don't mind them if they're done sparing, which was one of the things about Curse of the Spider King I don't like too much.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09953576423545296734noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1801346713794897249.post-59722275873555436882013-10-27T17:55:08.482-04:002013-10-27T17:55:08.482-04:00I think what you're trying to get at is POV dr...I think what you're trying to get at is POV drifts? POV shifts are fine when done sparingly and I'm seeing them become increasingly popular it YA.

A POV drift is where you just wander from one character's head to another aimlessly and it's not usually on purpose. It's also generally seen as bad writing. J. I could tell whose POV was whose, but it took a few paragraphs to realize whose it was. :PHyperLinkzerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04838354873102215433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1801346713794897249.post-87444791635890148412013-09-24T06:12:38.740-04:002013-09-24T06:12:38.740-04:00Yes, that's true. However, I've found that as an aspiring writer, you have to know the rules before you can break them, so I'm staying to just one POV for my current novel.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09953576423545296734noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1801346713794897249.post-52156635977005370832013-09-24T06:07:06.750-04:002013-09-24T06:07:06.750-04:00. . . I.... . . I'm not sure what to say to that . . .
I suppose it's the style. Most modern writers write in either first or third person intimate POV (meaning, anything the character cannot know or what have you isn't said, unless you're in a different scene with a different character.)

Have you read GHOST? I couldn't finish it. And not even because of the more adult themes . . .

Yes. Curse of the Spider King had a ton of POV's. Surprisingly, they did them fairly well.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09953576423545296734noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1801346713794897249.post-47189636499643259842013-09-23T21:13:53.100-04:002013-09-23T21:13:53.100-04:00Good advice. So if I have two POV characters, I'll write one or two chapters from the first character's POV, then one or two chapters from the second's POV. It seems to work well so far.Sarah Penningtonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06377945004067760298noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1801346713794897249.post-56513199966668813292013-09-23T20:04:23.492-04:002013-09-23T20:04:23.492-04:00And yeah, don't use too many different POVs. 2...And yeah, don't use too many different POVs. 2 or 3 should work fine.HyperLinkzerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04838354873102215433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1801346713794897249.post-33934241923827271362013-09-23T20:02:59.258-04:002013-09-23T20:02:59.258-04:00No offense, but I completely disagree.
